Last week it rained a lot. This is in front of our house early last week during a afternoon rain storm. The streets were flooded and cars were stalled at the end of our street.

Remember how pretty my four o’clock’s were? This is what happened to them after the rain. I am always sad when the rain or the wind blows them over like this.

I held my first crochet edging class on Wednesday of last week. I taught the ladies to crochet around the edge of a washcloth. I think all of them enjoyed it. I know Winifred was happy that she decided to go ahead and come to class.

I know I enjoyed watching each one of them as they became more confident that they could actually make the pretty scalloped edging. This one is Becki’s.

I was very proud of Sharon, come to find out she had tried teaching herself to crochet the last two weeks. I think I convinced her that she needed to take my Crochet 101 class coming up this Wednesday. I still have 2 spots left in that class if anyone is interested in learning to crochet in the Wichita area. Call Picket Fence Quilt Company at 558-8899.

Thursday night John and I went to one of our favorite Mexican restaurants; Cholita’s. It’s fun running into people we have been friends with for many, many years. Here is April with her little boy. I have been friends with her Momma and Dad before she was even born.

I managed to make another pair of the Moogly’s Ups and Downs Baby Booties. I love this yarn. It’s from Berocco and it’s a blend of cotton and acrylic and it’s called Weekend. I think it is perfect for these little booties. This is one of the projects that we will be doing at our KS My Stitch Crochet Guild retreat coming up in September.

John is always telling me that I only crochet with the colors that I like. He says that I hardly ever step out of my comfort zone when it comes to colors. Well, I decided to try a variegated yarn of these fun colors. So I made a long tailed hat…..

and finglerless mitts. I bought these orange flowered buttons a couple of years ago on clearance. I am so glad that I was finally able to use them.

Since winter will be here before we know it; Lisa (Picket Fence Quilt Company Owner) and I decided we needed to set up a hat and fingerless mitts class.

And since I had not made the Moogly’s Ups and Downs Slouchy hat or mitts in any of Lisa’s yarns, she asked me to make them in Cascade 220 yarn. Although many people love Cascade 220, I’m not one of them. I have tactile issues and wool pokes me and makes me itch. I decided I would have to look at Lisa’s other yarns to recommend another one for the hat and mitts. Even though I don’t care to use the Cascade 220, I still think they look good in the yarn.

Friday night we decided to get together with John’s sister and brother-in-law for dinner. We ordered the fried green beans as an appetizer. I highly recommend them!

After dinner Ricci and CW stopped at our house and I always get a kick out of Ricci and how she loves the things that I make. I love that the hat matched her shirt. I always enjoy when Ricci and CW stop in for a visit.

Saturday morning when I dropped off the Ups and Downs hat and mitts to Lisa at Picket Fence Quilt Company I noticed some new yarns that she had just gotten in. I decided that maybe the one on the right would work for the hat and mitts. It was so funny because Lisa and I were looking all over the tags to try and find out what size of yarn they were. There was not a 3, 4, or 5 anywhere to be seen.

After I finished the hat in the MayPole Eurobaby, I noticed the ribbon that came down below the word MayPole made a dk. Duh, the yarn was dk weight and the hat ended up being very small. But I think it still worked up very pretty.

Lisa asked me to make a men’s hat out of the MayPole Eurobaby in the gray stripes. I just made up this one and will be selling this at the Kansas Barn Sale.

Here is the one that will be on display at Picket Fence. I used Liz McQueen’s free pattern called Brain Waves Beanie. You can find it on Ravelry here.

Finally, yesterday I was able to get out into the backyard to check on my veggies. Here is one of the Tami G. tomatoes. I can’t wait for them to turn bright red.

Here’s an overall view of our little garden. It is being taken over by weeds and my Mother would be appalled by that. I am unable to get down on my hands and knees or use a hoe because of my back issues. So I pull a few when I can and let the others just go.

Here is one of the bigger tomatoes and I am looking so forward to having a lot more as the summer goes on.

Here are the yellow squash. These are some of my favorite squash. I dice these up along with onions, egg, corn meal and then fry it. I can eat this and tomatoes all day long and never tire of them.
We picked our first two tomatoes today! Your garden is going to be very productive. I love the bright stripey hat!

Girl, when do you ever sleep. You have been one busy girl. Your crochet items are beautiful I especially like the long tail hat that Ricci is wearing. She must have planned to wear the matching shirt and they do look great together. I can hear your mom now telling you to get that grass out of those tomatoes so they will grow better. My mom always told me I needed to clean my silverware drawer and I would respond that I was saving it for her to clean. And them she would clean it for me. I still laugh at some of the things she would say and do. My week has started off busy. I taught a bread class last Saturday for my OHCE group and I taught 5 ladies how to make white bread, hot rolls, cinnamon rolls, whole wheat bread, and molassess bread. It was a great time. Vacation bible school starts today and I am in charge of snacks for 200 people. We also move Jeralds mom home from skilled nursing. That will probably be Wed. or Thurs. Whewl-I think I need to go back to bed to rest. Love you girl. sw

Holy guacamole, Tamara! That’s a lot of rain!! And now you are suffering in the heat! I saw 99 yesterday for Wichita, 102 today. Ugh!! I hope your Four O’Clocks have perked up since the rain left. Poor babies!
I sure do love Winifred’s laughing face. 😀 I love crochet shells!
I like that you tied the booties together. I also like that John butted in (teasing John!!) and suggested you crochet out of your box regarding colors. 😉 Ricci makes a good model for that hat.
Hey – are those your or Lisa’s pink fingernails? I like that color.
Yah, I noticed the ‘dk’ on that MayPole yarn tag. I think they are too fancy on their labels. I thought it said Maylole! Too much ribbon design.
Isn’t John able to get down on his knees either? Those weeds are taking up some of your nice plants’ nourishment. Pooey weeds! I too can pull only a few at a time .. becuz of my knees and my lower back. 😦 Frank helps. 🙂 Our first patio-tomato is ripe!! I will have to send you a pic.
You’ll have to take a picture of your “cucumber ears”. LOL
Sunflowers are my second fave plant (next to pansies). We have a bunch. I planted seeds quite a few years ago, and some keep re-seeding. They are so pretty & bright. And the birds are already feeding on the seeds of the matured flowers. We’ve seen a pretty little yellow finch.
This was a wonderful post. “How do you find the time?!!??” 🙂
Hugs from Kat

Tamara,
Tell me more about the way you prepare yellow squash. I purchased some today and mom wants me to fry them. Your way sounds delish. I want to take your hat and fingerless glove class. Will it be in the evening? Love the long tailed hat too. You are so good at seeing the potential in patterns. I have to wait until I see the ones you make:)
Love ya much,
Kaye
