June 13-14, 2015 Weekend, Another Tutu, a Few More Fox Hats, Crochet Classes at Creation Station in Newton, and Growing the Garden

My weekend started off with me finishing up another crocheted topped tutu.

This one will be going to Cyprus, Texas to Debby for her granddaughter who will be one in August. Debby was the first one who ordered one of my tutus. Silly me, I didn't ask her for any measurements of her little granddaughter and assumed that the one that I had made would fit her. Well....the tutu was too small so this time I asked her for measurements and I am hoping that this one will work for her. Of course the true color of purple is actually darker than the picture shows here and the lavender tulle and sparkly purple buttons are more beautiful in person. Anyway, this little dress will be making its way to Texas real soon.

I had decided a week or so ago that I would like to make some little gray fox hats. So I got my gray yarn out and made a few fox hats. I love the way the little gray foxes look with their navy blue eyes.

In my Crochet 101 first session I always start my students off with a crochet swatch of 10 rows of 20 single crochets. That way they can get used to holding their yarn and their hook before tackling the dreaded chain row.

I told them the week before that this week we would start all over and start with the chain row. I told them that this would be the hardest thing that they would do. All of them agreed that the chain row was very difficult. This photo was taken by my lovely sister who brought our friend Rayma up to Newton to have lunch with me. Don't you just love how everyone was still smiling at the end of the class? I do.

After lunch I taught four young ladies to crochet-on-the-double.

I think they liked the technique. I love teaching at Creation Station and getting to know some of the people of the little town of Newton is fun too.

The little seeds are coming up nicely.

The Tami G. tomato plant looks like it is getting healthier. I'm not sure if John got the spray out or not, but I don't see any more leaves being nibbled on. I am looking forward to seeing if it produces lots of grape size tomatoes like it says it will.

This picture is of a little statue that sits next to the Tami G. plant. I'm not sure what it represents, but my friend from Idaho wanted to see a better picture of it. So here you go, Kat!

I was having another one of those days where I didn't want to start another project, so I picked up the crochet-on-the-double piece from Saturday and finished it. It was so funny; while I was crocheting this John looked up all of a sudden and said. "Hey, that is different." I had to laugh because he has seen me crocheting these many times but this time it just looked different to him. I really thought he didn't pay that much attention to me while I was crocheting, but, I guess he does. :)

Have you ever had one of those days, where you just want to make a dishcloth? That was how I was feeling on Sunday. I had some yarn left over from my crochet-on-the-double project so I made a red dishcloth with aqua trim. Now I am making an aqua one and hopefully I have just the right amount of red to go around it for trim.

Of course I always have to go out to see what John is up to, or to check up on him and I found him sanding boards. He didn't even notice that I had come into the back yard through the door right next to him. I got behind him to start taking pictures and he kept seeing a flash go off and couldn't figure out what it was. He really does concentrate hard on what he's doing and doesn't notice anything around him.

This is the look he gave me when he figured out that the flash was from my camera. I had a great weekend of teaching and hanging out with John. I forgot to mention that I have updated my sidebar with a new photo and if you click on the photo it will take you to a YouTube video of me crocheting. There have been a few of you who wanted to see what I look like when I crochet. I hope you like it.

  1. A lovely crafty weekend! I have been recovering from a mammoth gardening session on Friday by doing lots of cross stitch, knitting and crocheting. Back to normal today.

    • Hi Cathy! It sounds like you had a good weekend as well. Have a great day! Love and Hugs, Tamara

  2. Sounds like a relaxing weekend! Cute tutu. The garden is looking good. That statue thing looks interesting. Great job on the classes. Cute foxes. Glad John keeps busy and wowweeee, you can crochet fast!! Thanks for sharing.

    • Hi Jeanne! Thank you so much for stopping by, I had to laugh when you said that the statue was interesting. I have always thought it was a little weird and have never known what it represents, but John likes it so it stays. 🙂 AND thank you for watching the video. Love and Hugs, Tamara

  3. Purple is one of my favorite colors and I love the little purple and white tutu dress and the fox hats are adorable. Your students are so diligent in doing their crochet. Maybe that’s why I have never been able to learn to crochet. Your garden looks much better than ours. We haven’t been out to ours since we got the 24 inches of rain. The ground is still pretty wet. Hope you have a wonderful week. Love you bunches. sw

    • Hi Sue! Thanks for loving the things that I make. Actually the tutu is dark purple on top and lavender on the bottom. I think they look much better in person. I am so sorry to hear about your garden being drowned. I know how hard Jerald prepares for his garden every year. Hopefully you will have some things come up and grow? Have a great day. Love you too, Tammy

  4. Cute little tutu! I like your grey fox, and you have just the right buttons.
Great Crochet 101 class. I laughed at your comment about everyone still smiling at the end of the class. LOL
I guess I don’t know what crochet-on-the-double is. I have crocheted with 2 yarns at once, but never used a long hook.
    “Go, Tami G” tomatoes!!”
Aw, one of the persons on your statue lost its head over something .. taking the neighbor’s arm with her. Hah! Thank for the pic, Tammy.

Check your email. I sent you a pic of my gorgeous violet nailpolish!
I just ordered some Premier Home Cotton. I hadn’t heard of it – and I like that it says it dries quicker ‘cuz of the polyester added to it. I have oodles of Sugar ‘n Creme cotton, but decided I just had to try something our Tamara uses! 🙂 And I do need some new dishcloths .. but I’ll have to wait 1½ weeks before my new cotton arrives.
Soooo….. what’s “evil-eye John” (LOL) going to make with the wood?

No wonder you accomplish so much crochet so faaast!!! My eyes couldn’t hardly keep up with you!! Great video! I see you hold your hook like a knife. It seems that crocheters who do that are often able to crochet faster. I’ve tried, but I just can’t do it. I’m a fork-holder.
Have a good work week, my friend!! xoo

    • Hi Kat! Thanks so much for loving what I create. And yes the little statue is falling apart. I guess we are waiting for all of them to fall down before we throw it away. 😉 I’m so glad that you are going to try some Premier yarns cotton. I hope you like it. It’s more drapey and softer than Sugar ‘n Creme, that’s why I like it so much. John was making a peg board display board for him to put his jewelry and security products on. He also told me I could use it for the Kansas Barn Sale too. I will have to take a picture of the finished project and post it soon. I knew you would get a kick out of watching me crochet. HAHAHAHAHA Have a great day. Love you my friend!

  5. Ok, I am intrigued…what is crochet on the double? Is it Tunisian? Your weekend sounds fun but there was no eating out, you always eat out! 😉

    • Hello Alice! Crochet-on-the-double is made by using a needle with a hook on each end. It is worked just like Tunisian but you use two different colored yarns, and turning your work to work off of the other end. It is so hard to explain in words. That’s why I love to teach it because it helps so much to have the hands on for this technique. They have a wonderful video out on it and you can see it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VapMq5-4TNI There is a Part 1 and Part 2. I hope you try it out when you get a chance. Oh by the way, yes we did eat out at a new place. I will have to discuss that in my next post. Thanks for stopping by to comment, it always makes me smile. Have a great day. Hugs, Tamara

      • I will investigate that later. Thank you for taking the time to help me. X

  6. WHY IS THERE NO PURPLE IN YOUR HAIR????

    • HAHAHAHAH; I know, right? I am trying to create a different hairstyle and when I get it to the right place, my hairdresser will add the color back into my hair. Thanks for noticing. Love and Hugs, Tamara
