June 13-14, 2015 Weekend, Another Tutu, a Few More Fox Hats, Crochet Classes at Creation Station in Newton, and Growing the Garden

My weekend started off with me finishing up another crocheted topped tutu.

This one will be going to Cyprus, Texas to Debby for her granddaughter who will be one in August. Debby was the first one who ordered one of my tutus. Silly me, I didn’t ask her for any measurements of her little granddaughter and assumed that the one that I had made would fit her. Well….the tutu was too small so this time I asked her for measurements and I am hoping that this one will work for her. Of course the true color of purple is actually darker than the picture shows here and the lavender tulle and sparkly purple buttons are more beautiful in person. Anyway, this little dress will be making its way to Texas real soon.

I had decided a week or so ago that I would like to make some little gray fox hats. So I got my gray yarn out and made a few fox hats. I love the way the little gray foxes look with their navy blue eyes.

Then I was off to Newton to teach the second half of my Crochet 101 class.

In my Crochet 101 first session I always start my students off with a crochet swatch of 10 rows of 20 single crochets. That way they can get used to holding their yarn and their hook before tackling the dreaded chain row.

I told them the week before that this week we would start all over and start with the chain row. I told them that this would be the hardest thing that they would do. All of them agreed that the chain row was very difficult. This photo was taken by my lovely sister who brought our friend Rayma up to Newton to have lunch with me. Don’t you just love how everyone was still smiling at the end of the class? I do.

After lunch I taught four young ladies to crochet-on-the-double.

I think they liked the technique. I love teaching at Creation Station and getting to know some of the people of the little town of Newton is fun too.

On Sunday morning it rained and after the rain I decided to go out and see how much our garden had grown.

The little seeds are coming up nicely.

The Tami G. tomato plant looks like it is getting healthier. I’m not sure if John got the spray out or not, but I don’t see any more leaves being nibbled on. I am looking forward to seeing if it produces lots of grape size tomatoes like it says it will.

This picture is of a little statue that sits next to the Tami G. plant. I’m not sure what it represents, but my friend from Idaho wanted to see a better picture of it. So here you go, Kat!

I was having another one of those days where I didn’t want to start another project, so I picked up the crochet-on-the-double piece from Saturday and finished it. It was so funny; while I was crocheting this John looked up all of a sudden and said. “Hey, that is different.” I had to laugh because he has seen me crocheting these many times but this time it just looked different to him. I really thought he didn’t pay that much attention to me while I was crocheting, but, I guess he does. 🙂

Have you ever had one of those days, where you just want to make a dishcloth? That was how I was feeling on Sunday. I had some yarn left over from my crochet-on-the-double project so I made a red dishcloth with aqua trim. Now I am making an aqua one and hopefully I have just the right amount of red to go around it for trim.

Of course I always have to go out to see what John is up to, or to check up on him and I found him sanding boards. He didn’t even notice that I had come into the back yard through the door right next to him. I got behind him to start taking pictures and he kept seeing a flash go off and couldn’t figure out what it was. He really does concentrate hard on what he’s doing and doesn’t notice anything around him.

This is the look he gave me when he figured out that the flash was from my camera. I had a great weekend of teaching and hanging out with John.
