A Cool Tip and 8 Washcloths Edged

You may be asking yourself, “self, what is she going to do with that shelf lining material?”

Well let me tell you what I am doing with it! I am using it for the bottom of my Oma and Opa slippers. The trick is to stop after you have made both soles of your slippers, then lay down the shelf lining, trace around your sole, cut out the shelf lining so that it fits inside your sole. After I cut out 3 from that piece, I lay one to the side as a pattern for that particular size and I mark it so that I can use it later for all the rest of the Opa or Oma slippers that I make in that size.

Then I use a sewing machine needle used for leather, regular thread, and I pin down the liner to the right side of each of my soles, then I put my feed dog down so that I can get the sole and liner to go under the presser foot, then I put the feed dog back up. Then I zigzag all around the outside edge (making sure that I don’t catch any of the very last row of my crochet slipper sole; then I turn and zigzag across the middle part of the lining a few times.

Then I go back and crochet the body of the slipper. The shelf lining material works beautifully to keep me and everyone else safe from falling down on our hardwood or tiled floors.

Anyway, I have finally finished the edging on 8 washcloths that my friend Vici ordered from me before Thanksgiving. She told me there was no rush on them and obviously I took way too much time to finish them up. But I do love the way they turned out and can hardly wait to find out if she loves them as much I loved making them for her. I’m looking forward to the weekend as usual; my Saturday is going to be very hectic, haircut at 8:00 am, KS My Stitch Officer’s meeting at 10:30, and my second session of Crochet 101 from 1:30-3:30.
