A Cool Tip and 8 Washcloths Edged

1

You may be asking yourself, “self, what is she going to do with that shelf lining material?”

2

Well let me tell you what I am doing with it! I am using it for the bottom of my Oma and Opa slippers. The trick is to stop after you have made both soles of your slippers, then lay down the shelf lining, trace around your sole, cut out the shelf lining so that it fits inside your sole. After I cut out 3 from that piece, I lay one to the side as a pattern for that particular size and I mark it so that I can use it later for all the rest of the Opa or Oma slippers that I make in that size.

3

Then I use a sewing machine needle used for leather, regular thread, and I pin down the liner to the right side of each of my soles, then I put my feed dog down so that I can get the sole and liner to go under the presser foot, then I put the feed dog back up. Then I zigzag all around the outside edge (making sure that I don’t catch any of the very last row of my crochet slipper sole; then I turn and zigzag across the middle part of the lining a few times.

4

Then I go back and crochet the body of the slipper. The shelf lining material works beautifully to keep me and everyone else safe from falling down on our hardwood or tiled floors.

Anyway, I have finally finished the edging on 8 washcloths that my friend Vici ordered from me before Thanksgiving. She told me there was no rush on them and obviously I took way too much time to finish them up. But I do love the way they turned out and can hardly wait to find out if she loves them as much I loved making them for her. I’m looking forward to the weekend as usual; my Saturday is going to be very hectic, haircut at 8:00 am, KS My Stitch Officer’s meeting at 10:30, and my second session of Crochet 101 from 1:30-3:30. So what fun things do you have planned for the weekend.

  1. I would much rather your Saturday than mine. We plan on getting all the stuff from our loft and having a jolly good throw out!!
Love the idea for the soles of the slippers, but don’t think the liner is sold in the UK.

    • Hi Cathy! I hope you have a wonderful time cleaning out your loft. I need to do that too, but I seem to always find something else to do. 😉 I love the shelf liner material for the bottoms of my slippers and it is so cheap; $1-$2 per roll. I’m not sure how many pairs of slippers I can get out one roll but it’s quite a few. Thanks so much for stopping by to comment. Love and Hugs, Tamara

  2. Beautiful edgings!

    • Thanks for liking the edgings and for stopping by to comment. 🙂

  3. You are very clever to sew that shelf liner to the bottom of your slippers! And those edgings are beautiful. Sounds like you sure have a busy day planned. I’m sure you will enjoy it, too. Stay safe and warm.

    • Oh Jeanne; I wasn’t the one to think of the shelf liner idea, but I did come up with the idea to sew it on instead of gluing it on. 🙂 And you are so right; I will enjoy my busy Saturday. I can hardly wait. I hope you have a wonderful weekend too. Love and Hugs, Tamara

  4. Love the no-slip slipper tip, Tamara!!! Thanks, big hugs, and have a great weekend!

  5. Great tip for the soles 🙂 And your crochet work is beautiful as always, your friend will be thrilled! I’ve decided to visit with my parents for part of Saturday and finish my Mad Hatter chapeau for the rest of the weekend. With more snow on the way, it’s best I stay cozy inside. Oh, and I am anxiously awaiting a rather large box of rainbows & unicorns & fairy dust from JoAnn’s!! Have a fab weekend busy girl!!!

    • Oh Lisa, I love the sound of your weekend. And oh by the way I love your Mad Hatter chapeau. I can’t wait to see the finished product. Be safe my friend. Hugs, Tamara
