March 2-3, 2013 Weekend, Another Bella Rebekah Cardigan, a Pair of Tea Party Maryjane Shoes, Family, and Friends

1

My weekend started off having dinner and watching a movie with our friends. While we watched a movie I crocheted this hot pad. It had been a long time since we had been out with them and we had a great time.

2

Saturday morning I woke early because I wanted to finish the Bella Rebekah Cardigan that I had promised to make Shelly from Twist for a shop model. I loved working with the Dulce Amore cotton yarn and I just wished my camera captured the colors of the yarn better. The color of it is more of a teal. Shelly was very surprised to see that I had finished the little sweater so quickly.

3

I was very happy that I had some yarn left over so that I could make this cute pair of Tea Party Marjanes to match the little sweater. I even have enough left that I plan on making one of my fancy washcloths; edged with the teal.

4

While I was at Twist and before my first session of Crochet 101, I asked Shelly if it was ok if I tried to make another Bella Rebekah Cardigan out of this super bulky 100% acrylic yarn. Shelly is so kind and generous and said “sure go ahead”. Well this time I was wrong about the outcome of the sweater. On Sunday morning, after I got this far on the sweater I could tell that the super bulky weight yarn is not suitable for the Bella Rebekah Cardigan after all. But I do plan on making a pair of Toddler Galoshes and probably even have enough yarn to make a pair of Toddler Maryjane shoes too. I wonder if anyone would be interested in taking a class on making the Maryjane shoes. Oh by the way I had five wonderful students that were naturals when it came to learning how to crochet. I can’t wait to continue with them next weekend.  🙂  And all of them have already signed up to take the Crochet 102 class that my friend Lisa Mertes teaches. That makes me very happy!

On my way out of Twist my car turned left and headed down to Material Girls Quilt Shoppe. I hadn’t stopped by for a while and wanted to see my friends there. Of course Cathy was working and she asked me if I had any of those white washcloths that I had trimmed in crochet. I told her I did so I ran back home and picked up John, the washcloths, and a couple of my crocheted washcloths. Cathy decided that she needed 8 more crochet trimmed washcloths and one more of these washcloths, I couldn’t resist taking her picture with the washcloth she picked out. Thanks so much Cathy for loving my things enough to buy them from me. I keep telling you that you would save so much money if you would just let me teach you to crochet. I don’t think she wants one more hobby to be hooked on. When we left Material Girls we decided to eat dinner at Red Lobster. W-e-l-l I wasn’t prepared to wait an hour and 10 minutes to eat dinner but we did it anyway. A funny quite scary thing happened while we were all waiting in the lobby of Red Lobster; the electricity went off and stayed off for about 5 minutes. We continued to wait and then when the lights came back on we made friends with a couple who were visiting Wichita because the man’s father was in the hospital. They asked me where Cabela’s was and how to get there from the restaurant. I had to ask John to come over to tell them since I had no idea how to get there. I told them if they would have wanted to know how to get to the closest fabric or yarn store I could do that. I continued to visit with them until they were seated. If you would have told me 10 years ago that I would be talking to perfect strangers in a restaurant I would have told you that you were crazy. (that’s how shy I was) Anyway, I was very glad that we waited to eat. It had been a very long time since we had eaten at Red Lobster and both of us enjoyed it immensely.

Sunday was all planned out that Jennifer, Mom, and my sister Jackie were coming to my house for lunch. It was unusual that I hadn’t already figured out what I was going to make until Sunday morning. Then it hit me that a pot of beans sounded good and of course how could we have beans without cornbread. So I started the beans and then when they were done I made the cornbread. I chose not to get showered or dress until after the food was done. Why was I surprised to hear the doorbell ring at 10:00 a.m. and to find Mom on the other side of my door? I had told her that lunch was going to be served around Noon, but I had told her that she could arrive any time that she wanted to; I guess she wanted to arrive early. So, I jumped into the shower and let John entertain her until I could get myself ready. That’s one of the things that I love about John; he’s very entertaining most of the time. 😉 Then Jennifer arrived around Noon, and we ate shortly after that. Everyone loved the beans and the leftover Minestrone soup that I warmed up. I even made homemade croutons to go in the soup; don’t worry we had plenty of vegetables to counteract all that bread. (Mom brought cooked broccoli, carrots, and baby cucumbers)

7

Of course what a perfect opportunity to take a family picture and John was very kind to take several.

8

I just wished he would have stayed perched on top of that chair like he was when he took this photo. I’m going to say it again; it’s funny what a person will do for just the right photo.  🙂

I still can’t believe how hard it is to take a picture of four grown people.

9

Oh and I do love this picture that shows all of our left hands. Jennifer’s doesn’t show that same age spot as Mom’s, Jackie’s, and mine do; but give it a few years and hers will probably look the same. Mom used to call them liver spots; now we just call them age spots. Next weekend I want to take this picture over again and have my little Megan’s hands in the photo too.

10

After we got the entire picture taking done; all of us ladies went to see our dear friend Jean’s newest little great-grandson who was born a week and two days ago. He ended up in the hospital Friday because of his jaundice. And of course Mom has been so excited to see the new little baby and to give him the gifts that she had made him. I love to see Mom’s face light up when she settles back in a chair with a little baby in her arms.

11

I see the same look in my own daughters face when she settles back with a baby in her arms too. Of course Mom had to try on the little booties that she had made him

12

and also try the boots on him that I had made him. While we were at the hospital the doctor came in and told the babies’ Momma that all of his tests came back good and that he was going to be released, so we waited until she packed up her things and all five of us carried her things to her car for her and made sure she was all settled in to make the trip home before we made our way back home.

13

I had a very fulfilling weekend and enjoyed every minute of it. I just have one last thing to share with you; as John was measuring my eyes so that we could order new eyeglasses on-line I looked up and saw this. I told him that I needed to take a picture so that he could see that he had a moustache hair growing up to tickle his nose. I told him that was why he was always sneezing all the time. He’s so funny and I think everyone needs a John in their life to make them laugh, so this is why I share him with all of you. I hope everyone has a good start of the week and I’ll talk to you real soon.

  1. If you can figure out a way to clone John, I’d gladly have one in my life 🙂

    • Hi Jill!

Oh my gosh that picture is so funny and guess which one showed up on Facebook? Yep, the one of John’s nose. HAHAHAHAHA! Some days I would gladly send the real one your way. 🙂

      Love and Hugs,
      Tamara

  2. Sounds like a lovely weekend, Tamara. Filled with fun and family and sharing. John sounds like a real hoot, too! Hope you have a great week!

    • Hi Jeanne!

You have no idea how funny John is. I love to see him smile, even though he rarely does. He’s quite serious; but when he does smile I try to capture it in a picture. Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope you have a good week as well.

      Love,
      Tamara

  3. You are right, Tamara, I can’t imagine having one more hobby to be hooked on. Sure do love what you make though! Glad you stopped by on Saturday!

    • Hi Cathy!

As always it’s always nice to see you. Next time I come in I want to see what you are making, ok? Thanks for loving the things that I make.

      Hugs,
      Tamara

  4. Love the little cardigan and mary jane shoes. The colors are awesome. Your meal of beans and cornbread and minestrone soup sounds wonderful and I know that your Mom, Jackie and Jenny love it. Wish I had the oppertunity to do that with my girls, sisters and my Mom. Love the picture of your hands. What a cool idea for pictures. I love your husband-he is such a crackup. Love you girl. sue

    • Hi Sue!

Thank you so much for stopping by to read my blog and for commenting each time. It really makes a difference! You should take pictures of you and your girls’ hands along with Emilee and Kailynn. You could start a family tradition. 🙂

      Love you too!
      Tamara

  5. Hi Tamara! I recently read that TEAL is THE color right now, so you are really “with it”, girlfriend. I love this color!! .. Can you share the pattern for the potholder?
Loving the little cardigan & booties.
And the minestrone soup … is that homemade? Makes me hungry!

GREAT photos of you 4 ladies together .. including the one of the hands. That is such a great idea. You will always treasure these pics, as you well know (but your mom does not know – LOL).

That John…. heeeere’s Johnny! (such a comedian) 😀 Yah, would’ve been fun to have a photo of him standing up on that turquoise chair. But the one of his hairy face — he obviously is *not* self-conscious .. the fact that he allowed you to ‘broadcast’ this pic. hahaha!!! I thought that was a hair growing *out of* his nose .. not *into* it from his ‘stache. Too funny about its tickling him & his sneezing but not realizing why.

    Thanks for your ever-so-interesting-&-comical blogging!
    Love ‘n Laughs ~

    • Oh my gosh Kat you are so cute! Yes the minestrone was homemade and man it was good. John said that he liked it so much that he thought he would keep me around a little longer. 😉 Just a regular Dick Van Dyke my John is. Oh by they way on closer inspection of the picture of John’s hairy face I noticed that the hair was a nose hair not a moustache hair. Gross!!!! He doesn’t have any idea that I posted it on the blog, I hope he doesn’t get too made at me. 🙂 Thanks for loving my comic relief.

      Love you my friend,
      Tamara

      • Golly-how-I-LOVE minestrone soup .. and yours sure looked scrumptious, Tamara!! Glad John agreed. heh-heh!

LOL about the *nose* hair. If Frank has one that shows, I mention it to him so he can yank it out. When he has some eyebrows that grow wild, he allows me to pluck those. Men with very bushy/way-too-many eyebrows is a pet peeve for me. I do not understand why they do not trim those! (glad Frank does not have it that way) And then there are those guys whose hair is thin .. or not much there .. and they do those comb-overs. I guess they do not realize how obvious it is and how ridiculous they look. It is *not* beautifying, fur sure! LOL!!
        xoxooooooooo ~ Kat

  6. My eyes light up just looking at the pic if this sweet baby:). My hands look just like yours and I promise I won’t complain about that pesky age spot when it decides to appear;)

    • I love you Jennifer 🙂

      Your Mommy!
