It’s Friday Again, a Few Tips, Another Bag Holder, and More Crochet Edged Washcloths

Gosh this week has seemed to fly by and once again I struggled to write another blog post. Maybe I have writers block? Then I remembered my friend Kat shared a few helpful tips with me and I thought I would share them along with a few of mine too.

  1. Annie’s Attic is running a special for free shipping on orders over $20. You have to have a special code of EXSHIPF. Go here to Annie's Attic to find out more. You have to be a member and the free shipping expires on July 31, 2012.
  2. Mr. Clean Magic Erasers really are magic and you can learn more about them here on this fun website.

Here are my two tips:

First of all never let your garage get to this level of clutter (or as you’ve seen on tv “hoarding”). I can’t believe I’m actually showing you this, but hopefully it will shame us into cleaning it out the rest of the way and continue to keep it that way.

Sometimes it’s nice to get rid of everything and I’m so glad I didn’t throw these fun boots away,

or this hat from John’s Navy days (he was so excited about finding this hat and had to call me at work just to tell me he found it),

or this baby yarn, Heaven knows how old this stuff is with a price of 99¢ a skein from Hobby Lobby and it’s still in perfect condition. Thank goodness I had sense enough to place it in one of those zipper bags (of course I couldn’t throw that away either).

Here’s another box of goodness. Size 10 crochet thread all in the same color except that one pink one. I think they were going to make a tablecloth or bedspread. No. I didn’t buy it someone found it at a garage sale and gave it to me; and yes I will be bringing that back into the house with me. I just love it and I know there’s more thread in another area of the garage too. I just haven’t run onto it yet.

I’m sure by now you probably figured out that we decided to clean out the garage. Mostly John decided to clean it out. He wants to have a garage sale and I told him not to throw anything away before I could go through it. So that’s what I’ll be doing the majority of my weekend. Obviously I can’t complete it in one evening. I have a pile to go to the Goodwill, a pile to put in the garage sale, and a pile to throw away. It should be quite a sale, since we haven’t had one for 20 years.  😉

Now onto crochet; I received my new printed labels, and I love getting this little box of labels in the mail with all of those interesting stamps on the box and

I love opening it and seeing all those little labels crammed into that tiny little box.

Oh by the way I did crochet a little. I made another bag holder and this time I sewed buttons on the top of them right in front of the hanging loop. I think it adds just an added touch of texture to my design.

I also finished 5 more washcloths. I have one more from that package to make a total of 18. These were so much fun to make that I think I’ll be purchasing another package and this time I’ll make sets of 4 of the same color and sell them as a set wrapped with a ribbon around them. So what’s going on in your part of the world? Do you have any cool tips to share? And I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and I’ll talk to you on the other side of mine.  🙂

  1. I’m glad you didn’t get rid of the “old boots”…they are cool 🙂

    • I’m glad someone else likes them too and Thanks for stopping by to comment:)

      • Also if it is any consolation, I have a closet in similar condition to your garage on a smaller scale…it is also my weekend project LOL 🙂

  2. Buttons on the bag holders look lovely.
I am still laughing about your garage. Mine isn’t much better. I have never ever been able to park my car in it!
    Have a great weekend.

    • Hi Jill,

I’m so glad that I’m not the only one that has a garage that they can’t park their car in. Although I don’t know if I would like to park my car in there now because the garage door opener has been broken for many years and it’s a pain in the butt to open and close that heavy door. Thanks for stopping by to comment.

  3. I don’t know what’s in the air, but I just finished cleaning out our garage yesterday (Thursday)!! Mine is probably because I’m closing my daycare and I’m shelling out the junk!! Good luck and enjoy rediscovering all of your neat treasures! : )

    • Hi Jill,

That’s funny that you cleaned out your garage too. It’s been fun finding things and also realizing that I need to get rid of this stuff. I don’t want my children to have to go through it for me when I’m gone. They will have enough stuff to go through in my craft room. Ha! Ha! Thanks so much for stopping by have a great weekend.

  4. Hi Tamara,

It wasn’t too long ago that we cleaned and organized our garage as well. You will feel a great sense of accomplishment when it is done, and won’t it be nice to be able to put your car in there when you need to? We had just organized ours when not too long after we had a severe summer storm with golf ball-sized hail. I was so happy that my little Honda civic was not dented as a result.

Love your labels. Any possibility of sharing your source? I have been thinking if getting some for myself to stitch inside items that I make to give to others.

We anticipate very hot and humid weather here in New York this weekend, so we are off to spend some time on the lake and will try to stay cool.

    Have a great weekend!

    • Hi Merri!

It’s so nice to hear from you. I think of you often out there on that beautiful ocean just sailing around. 😉

I’m so glad that I’ll feel much better once my garage is cleaned and organized. Right now it’s just frustrating to think that some of the stuff I want to keep but I don’t want to bring it back into the house. Oh well they have such nice storage containers now, so I think it will be nice organizing those things.

I would love to share my source for the labels. The company is Worldwidelabels. I think I ordered the minimum that you could order for printed labels and they cost me $75. It always seems like its alot but I do love sewing those little labels onto each one of my creations. The last time I ordered the woven labels and they seem to poke; you know like the labels in your shirts that you have to tear out? Anyway this time I ordered the printed ones and hope that they won’t be pokie.

Sounds like you will have a great time on the water this weekend. I hope you have smooth winds.

      Love and Hugs,

  5. Love your blog this week and yes your garage looks just like my computor room-my sewing room (before I got it cleaned) and my garage (before Jerald got it cleaned and messed up again). We all have something in common and I love it that we are all sisters at heart. Have a great day sister. sue

    • Hi Sue!

Thanks for stopping by to comment and let me know that I’m not alone in my collecting (hoarding) challenges. I’m so glad you like my blog and thanks for letting me know.

      Love you,

  6. You are so brave! Thank you for showing your garage! I have not parked my car in my garage since we moved into the condo. Yours looks fairly organized.

I have the garage clean-out on the agenda for fall. It currently houses my former dining room table, Jim’s mom’s collectibles in totes, a set of dishes and tons of kitchen ware I kept of my grandmother’s – and what Lauren couldn’t fit in her new apartment.

AND it is a shared garage that my poor neighbor has to walk by to get to and from his car. We have one side of a 2 car garage, he has the other. He hates me, but is too nice to let on that he hates me!

I am on the border of being a hoarder. One donation at a time, I say!

    • Oh Steph!

Thanks for making me laugh. Our garage is a two car also and we own both sides. There is no way we could even fit one car in there. When I first moved into the house 35 years ago I could fit two cars in there with plenty of room to walk around. I hope it will be nice and tidy enough to have an actual garage sale in the garage? We’ll see.

      Love you,

  7. Hey Tamara! People could just do the hokie-pokie when those woven labels would poke them. Bwaaaa-haaa!

You would not believe how clean & organized our garage is. I won’t show you a pic of it cuz it would maybe make you cry. Bwaaaa-haaa!!

BTW, shoppers at Annie’s Attic: In case you don’t find $20 worth of goodies there, you could maybe use this Coupon Code: EX1SHIP (shipping $1.99 for $15 order, good thru July 31).

You look darn cute in John’s Navy hat, Tamara!!

Wow!! I am so jealous of all that wonderful yarn you discovered in your garage that I just might cry. [hmmm…. Maybe I *should* show you our clean-&-neat garage! Bwaaa-haaa!!]

I like your added buttons on your bag holders. But you are *mean*, showing us more ‘n more of those great bags and not having the pattern written yet. [just teasing, girlfriend!] 😀

    Love & Hugs & Grins!

    • OH Kat!

I would love to see your nice clean garage. That way I would know what I can look forward to. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Thanks so much for sharing the tips about Annie’s Attic and the Magic Eraser. Now I need to go and purchase one of those erasers for the garage that I’ll have to clean as soon as I can get everything out of it. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Thanks so much for liking my bags and sorry I’m still working on the pattern. You know how I am with writing patterns. UGH!!!

I still want to see a picture of your garage. 🙂

      Love you,

  8. I “discovery” yarn every year or so when I try to “organize” (ha!) my stash. It’s never organized but I do have a lot of fun rooting around in it. 🙂

    • Hi Karen,

I’m the same way when I try and organize my yarn and I’m with you my yarn is still not organized as well as I want it to be. When I start on many projects I start pulling it from everywhere and then it somehow doesn’t get back to where it belongs.

Thanks so much for stopping by to comment.

    • Hey sis if Dale is Fred Sanford are you his Aunt Esther? She was always my favorite character.

    • BWHAHAHAH, Sis You and Sue are so funny. Yes I remember Sanford and Sons and Aunt Esther with her big hats. Funny show, my Dad always got a kick out of watching it too. Thanks so much for stopping by to share your storage garage story with me.

      Love you,

  10. Our garage is like that! However, it all belongs to my Grandpa – from when they moved here TEN years ago! He still hasn’t come to claim it…possibly because his shed/garage/loft all look like that too! Good luck with he sorting! At least you have come across some lovely finds in there!

  11. This cracked me up. I’m so glad I’m not the only one!

We just reorganized our basement storage area not too long ago. I found yarn all over the place. There was so much in so many odd places that I ended up reworking “Old McDonald had a Farm” and singing offkey while I worked. “With a ball o’ yarn here and a ball o’ yarn there…”

I’m so glad you found that stack of washcloths! My mother used to make them as gifts. Just about all my memories of her involve crochet. 🙂 I think I’m going to try my hand at it to surprise my sister for her housewarming. Do you have a recommendation for a thread size you find works best for edging washcloths?

    • Hi Ericka,

I’m so glad you liked my story about my garage. It makes me happy that I’m not all alone with my problem. 🙂 I recommend you use size 10 crochet thread and a hook size that you’re comfortable with like a steel size 9 or 10. Either one would pull the thread through the openness of the cheaper made washcloths. I found them at Walmart and they are $4 for a stack of 18. What a bargain and what a fun thing to give as gifts or sell them at craft shows. Thanks so much for stopping by to comment and I’m glad that I inspired you.

  12. Hello Tamara I just found your blog….. And yes I will like the size 10 crochet thread if you are selling it

    • I’m sorry I don’t sell the size 10 crochet thread, but there are lots of yarn and thread websites that do. But I’m glad you found my blog and like the thread. 🙂

      • 🙂
