Crochet Addiction or Hobby? That’s My Question to You

My friend Susie and I were talking the other day about how she obsesses over having a crochet project with her at all times. She said, “Tamara I think I’m addicted to crochet.” We talked a little more about it and then we laughed, but when she left I started asking myself these questions:

1.         What’s the first thing that you think of when you wake up in the morning? Do you think about the crochet project that you left undone the night before? I would have to say yes, I do.

2.         What’s the first thing you think about grabbing as you are leaving the house? Is it several projects and all your hooks? I would have to say yes, I do. (I’m always afraid that if I don’t take several projects, I’ll finish one and then I will have extra time that I will have idol hands.)

3.         Do you crochet on a project until the last minute before rushing out the door to go to work? I would have to say yes I do.

4.         Do you rush through your lunchtime meal in order to have the most amount of your hour left to crochet on that exciting project that you started the night before, and crochet up until the last few seconds of your lunch hour and sometimes you’re almost or have been late to allow the person at the front desk to take their lunch break? (sorry Rosina) I would have to say yes, I’m guilty.

5.         Do you seek out small or large groups of people that like to crochet so that you can be inspired by them and just talk about crochet? I would have to say yes I do.

6.         Do you spend hours upon hours on the computer seeking out inspiration for your next crochet project and then can’t remember half the websites you have visited? I would have to say yes I do.

7.         You get all antsy and grouchy if you haven’t crocheted all day. I am so guilty on this one and I would say yes I do.

I know there are more than 7 instances of my crochet hobby; but I can’t remember all of them all at once and let’s not go there. 🙂

Ok, here’s what my hobby (addiction) has produced in the last 2 days:

2 cute earflap hats,

1 KU Jayhawks earflap hat, 2 washcloths (sorry, no picture of the washcloths because I needed to continue to crochet)

I did stop crocheting long enough to create this cool order form and worked 2-8 hour shifts at my real job. I had to create the new order form for the crocheted hats because…….

I got orders for 11 more yesterday. I’m still not sure whether this crochet thing is an addiction or hobby but all I know is that I have to crochet. Which one do you think it is?

  1. For you it is an addiction, for me it is a hobby. And of course I understand if you are a tad bit late to relieve me for lunch (as long as you continue to understand if I rush back from lunch a tad bit late with my crochet bag over my shoulder!)

Your order forms look great, by the way.

    • RJ,

Thanks for coming clean on your (uh-hum-er) Hobby. Tee! Hee! We both know that we are just alike so I would call you a border-line addict. Thanks for liking my order forms and thank you for stopping by to confess.

      Love you,
      Tamara

  2. Love those 2 pictures of you, what a cute girlie you are!
Guilty, on all 7 accounts! I was chuckling aloud as I read each one.
You are a busy one with all the hat making and it might get a bit crazier after your time this weekend at Material girls quilt shop! I will try to walk down and say hi from teaching at Twist!
    Suz

    • Hey Susie,

I knew you would get a kick out of this post, since we had just talked about it. I wished I could remember all the instances of addiction; like when your kids are hungry and you tell them that you just want to finish one more row. Ha! HA! I would love for you to walk down and see me, maybe we could go to lunch after my gig?

      Love you,
      Tamara

  3. *W*O*W*!!!! That is purrcisely what came to my thoughts when I saw this first photo of you. (I saved it as “Looking Beautiful”.) I think ya ought to use it in replacement of your current blog photo. That one is great also, but this one (IMO) really shows your purrsonality. 🙂

More cute hats. And I LOVE YOUR ORDER FORMS — fantastic job, Tamara!!

    • Thanks Kat for liking my photos. They were some that Joshua took his last year of high school. He loved taking pictures of me up close and distorted looking. I thought they were funny looking and showed my addiction to crochet; it’s behind me, around my neck and I was probably sitting on some! 🙂 Thank you for being you, love you! Tamara

  4. Oops! I forgot to mention the second photo of ya. I saved that one as “Looking Adorable”. 😉 You are soooo purr-ecious!!

    • You are so silly, love Tamara!

  5. i will admit to……ADDICTION! i go thru withdrawls if i don’t crochet something, sometime every day. i have a project by “my” chair, one in the computer/craft room, and one in a bag for my “going” project that i take up when i watch my grandchildren. there is also hooks and a skein of yarn in the glove box for those just-in-case moments…..there is always granny squares!

    • Hi Diane,

I love hearing that you have the same addiction that I do. My husband says that I have crochet in every room and he’s pretty much right. The reason I love crochet is that it’s so portable and I can take it with me every where I go. I even have some yarn in my trunk just for emergencies and charity work. Thanks for sharing your addiction with me.

      Hugs,
      Tamara

  6. Missy, you are an addict. But, there are worse things to be addicted to!
Admitting it is the first step, they say. But I am not sure you would be interested in recovery!
Have fun, love seeing what you make and how your mind works. You speak what so many of your readers think about life, love and the bits of crochet in between.
    Love,
    Steph

    • Oh Steph,

You are too kind, thanks for being here and encouraging me with my addiction. I love reading your comments and I love you.

      Tamara

  7. adorable pictures of you. i wonder who took them? ;DDDDDD i finished a hat last week and need to make some more! yes oh yes. in the meantime, i will be watching a movie, doing laundry and going to work a short short shift at work. H’RAY. i love you!!!

    • Hi Joshua,

You know who took those pictures of me. LOL I thought they would be funny and show my crochet addiction off with the crochet in the background and hanging around my neck. I didn’t post the ones that you made my face look distorted though and I know those are your favorite ones.

      Love you too,
      Momma

  8. Yep, you are definitely addicted. Great post! Glad you have something so fun and tangible to be hooked on. LOL

    • Hi Jeanne,

I just thought this was such a fun topic and knew a lot of other people could relate to it. Thank you so much for commenting.

      Love,
      Tamara
