May 28-29, 2011 Weekend

On Saturday I was searching through my yarn to see if I could use some of my stash to make another little kimono sweater and I ran onto some Nashua cotton linen that I found at Twist.

I remembered that I had promised little Ainsley (Shelly Stilger’s daughter) over a year ago that I would make her something out of this yarn, so I set out to make her this little short sweater that she can wear over her summer dresses. I like to add a little fabric to my crochet pieces so I added a fabric loop and a mother-of-pearl button.

I am so glad that it fit her just like a glove and she loved it.

I had made up my mind to tackle my craft room this weekend and Sunday would be the perfect day, since my Dear husband would be out of town. He kind of freaks out when he sees that I have to take all of the stuff out of the room first and deposit it on our bed and all around our bedroom, then I have to go in and clean the craft room and then start putting things back a little bit at a time.

I’m not sure what he would do if he walked in right now and seen this.

Here’s the messy sewing area before.

I moved a card table into Joshua’s old room and set up my sewing area in there. I will have the ironing board and iron in there too; because it makes more sense and also I always have to turn the window unit off in the craft room before I iron; because it overloads the breaker.

I decided to move my laptop computer into the craft room and oh my gosh I love it up here and I love that I have my dining area back again after 2 years.

Here are some highlights of my day on Sunday:

I moved the green shelf upstairs from the garage where it’s been in storage for a year and a half. I remember when I purchased this shelf from the thrift store along with one of my dining room chairs. When I got out to the car with them; I couldn’t get the shelf to fit into the back seat or the trunk. I wished I would’ve had a camera or video on me trying like crazy to get the chair and the shelf into my car. It wasn’t so funny when I had to call my husband to bring the van and come bail me out, because he just doesn’t understand sometimes what I want to do with the things that I find. Almost all the time; I don’t know what I’m going to do with them either. Anyway the green shelf had a purpose, but I just needed to decide to clean this room out before it would fit in. So now it’s in its place.

I found my dolls that my Grandma Kingery brought back from one of her vacations. She always tried to bring back something from their trips for my brothers and my sister and me. I will always treasure these and think of my Grandma when I look at them.

I found these little crewel pictures that I made back in the late 70’s and I can’t seem to part with them,

but I do love the way they look on my green shelf.

Then I ran onto these cards and note that my friends, Rosina, Kat, and Merri sent to me. Along with a valentine that Joshua gave me.

Found this flag that Joshua made at his Aunt Jackie’s house

and here’s what he wrote on the back. He’s such a sweetie and I miss him so much!

If you don’t know by now I like to collect a lot of different things and here are a few of them:

Wire thingys.

Foldable sewing baskets and project bags. These are only a few of the things that I collect, but it’s been great finding these little treasures and remembering when I picked them up or when I made something or received something from someone. I love weekends like this just remembering and making memories. This has been such a tiring day but an enjoyable one too; because I feel so much better when things are a little more organized and I do want you to know that I did get my bed cleaned off in time to lay this tired body down to sleep on Sunday night. I hope everyone has a pleasant Memorial Day and I’m remembering all the people who have passed on before us to serve our country so that we can all be free.

You be sure to show John the photo of “all that stuff” on the bed. He’ll be so glad he was away. [giggles] And of course, I know he is so glad to be HOME with his love!

  3. The little jacket is adorable and Ainsley wears it perfectly!
So, did you get the room all organized?
I love the retro crewel work.
I just finish the lining for Summer’s diaper……..now I just need to make the handles and sew them on. Then I will be free to crochet something for fun!

    • Susie,

I did get my room a little bit more organized but I think it will be a work in progress for a long time. I love hearing about what you’re working on and I’m glad you will soon get to move onto some fun crochet. Thanks for stopping by and look forward to seeing you on Saturday.

      Love and Hugs,
      Tamara
