November 13-14, 2010 Weekend

Wow, what a great response on that last post about Lova and Betty. I loved reading all your comments and I do appreciate all of them. Thanks again for all your sweet comments and I hope you enjoy reading more about my adventures and mishaps.

This last weekend started out by me finishing a few of the many projects that I have started. First of all I finished the big ripple afghan that I started about a year ago. The afghan is made from Lion Brand Wool-Ease and it became very difficult to work on when the weather got warmer, so I put it away until about a month ago. Now it’s finished and ready for the cold weather to hit.

I also finished the knitted hat that I had started on and then quit. All I had to do is add a few more rows and add a pom pom on top to complete the look. I don’t know why I didn’t finish it a long time ago. Oh well, now it’s finished and I can’t wait to see it on an actual baby.

On Saturday, I decided to go to Midwest Sewing Center (sorry about the hair, I couldn’t get it to do anything, so I just pulled it straight back, wow not a good look) where my sister Jackie was available to ask questions and talk about designing fabric and patterns. Her new fabric line; Baby Business and In the Nest are from Benartex; who also own Bernina. Anyway the sewing center was demonstrating the new Bernina machines.

Wow these machines are so much different than my Curious Craftsman machine (pictured above).

They even let me try my hand at quilting with one of their machines. Oh my gosh the machine only goes when you move the fabric, it was amazing.

I loved seeing the new machines and all of Jackie’s beautiful fabric made into her wonderful patterns.

The JUNK bag.

Britches and Bloomers and Flower Pocket Top.

Owl quilt (I picked all the fabrics out for this one)

When I left there I decided to stop by Hancock Fabrics and Hobby Lobby to pick up some things for Joshua. As some of you know Joshua reads my blog posts so I can’t show you the things that I got for him, hee hee!

Then for some reason my car just happened to pull into the DAV Thrift Store. Where I found this really cute flower girl vase that is the perfect size to put pens and pencils.

Then I found this ceramic holder. I’m not sure what it was intended for, but I intend on using it to store things that are waiting to be used; like snaps, buttons, flowers, etc.

Then I found this really cool case that snaps shut. I think it was used for makeup, but I intend on using it to store my knitting needles. As you probably know by now that I’m not a knitter, but I do knit sometimes. So therefore I have knitting needles that are just lying around inside bags and such. I thought this case might work to organize all of them. We’ll see.

Then it was off to finish another item. I picked up my Joseph’s wrap and finished the skein of yarn that I had been crocheting with, and then I sewed up the side seams and edged the armholes. Then I tried it on. Uh Oh, I don’t like it at all on me, the side seams showed because of the variegated yarn and I just don’t like it made out of the yarn that I chose. So I will be ripping it out and making something else out of it.

When one project ends in my house, another one has most likely already been thought of and so I started this cute hat of many colors. Somehow those flowers are supposed to jump onto the hat and when they do, I think it will be even cuter. All in all my weekend went really well, how did your weekend go? I hope you all have a great week.

  2. What a wonderful weekend you had, Tamara. Thanks for sharing all your finds, finished projects and fun adventures. I think it’s pretty special that you picked the colors for that beautiful owl quilt.

I hope your week gets off to an equally great start!

  4. BAAAAAHHHHH!!! i’m very excited about this “stuff.” jus’ sayin’. i love seeing aunt jackie’s things. they remind me of her house. i had a very uneventful weekend on the crochet side of things. only made one hat and i’m not even sure if it looks good on me! i gave a little bit of input to my friend’s yarn purchase today. one of my faaavorite things to do is just walk around lion brand studio to look at and touch the yarns. even though nothing changes much in there, week to week. but! they have these two sale bins – well, not so much sale as they are… discounted from tears and stuff – of yarns. i must go there more often just to check out these bins. hollaback.

    • Joshua,

Your thoughts make me happy and you make me smile. I can’t believe that you like some of the same things that I do. Your Dad has been instructed to mail off your package today!

      Love you,
      Momma
